Green Influencers Scheme creates deep, lasting and meaningful connections with the natural environment

Through this scheme young people will learn and build skills which will help them contribute to the local community through environmental action.

The Green Influencers Scheme is funded by the Ernest Cook Trust. ecoACTIVE will be delivering six projects between 2021 and 2023, working with 120 young people from schools in Hackney

Inspired by teenagers like Greta Thunberg, young people across England have been leading the climate change and wildlife crisis debate.

Case Study: Morningside Primary

Learn about the environment.

ecoACTIVE has recently finished working with a wonderful group at Morningside Primary school, in Hackney. Throughout this 11 week project, pupils learnt about some of the current environmental issues and developed actions to make a difference for their community, and to inspire others to make changes themselves.

These actions included working with local artist Michelle Meola to create a biodiversity mural, with the aim to inspire the school community to 'protect nature's beauty' . It is now admired even by people who pass by the school gate!

Children work as a team to build a wooden planter from recycled wood

Gain new skills.

The Green Influencers also learnt lots of new skills. They created their own seated planters reusing old pallet wood, which would have been dumped or burnt. Solo Wood Recycling helped pupils understand how to construct these planters using tools. The Green Influencers then had lots of fun painting them! These planters were used to plant nine trees in the school playground, to provide habitats for wildlife and help improve well being for children and staff at the school. Hackney Tree Musketeers helped us understand the benefits of trees and how to plant them correctly so they can thrive.

Influence others.

At the end of the project, the Green Influencers worked with Creative Wick to create some videos showcasing some of the learning and actions that have been taking place at Morningside. We hope you enjoy watching these videos and are also inspired to help in your own way. Like the brilliant Green Influencers say... “so, can you make a difference?”

The Green Influencers tell us more about their fantastic project

Well done everyone!

A huge well done to all the pupils who took part - we are SO proud of you and your brilliant efforts during the project. A big thank you to all the staff at Morningside for their support too.

This video shows the young people explaining more about their project. We hope you enjoy it and are left feeling empowered by the messages they share... we definitely are, and are excited to work with another group who will continue their Green Influencers' legacy!

How it works

Projects are youth led. Our ecoACTIVE mentor will work with groups of 10 young people, aged 10-14, who will be the Green Influencers. These young influencers will devise and deliver social change projects.

ecoACTIVE, in particular our lead mentor Hannah, will guide the Green Influencers through the delivery of the project across eight sessions. We will be working with schools across Hackney

What’s really special about Green Influencers’ Scheme is that it aligns with our own goals of giving young people a chance to lead the way and offering the chance to learn through hands-on activities.
