Empowering KS5 Students with Practical Skills for Green Careers

Our further education and college workshops are designed to inspire young people to explore green careers, deepen their understanding of environmental issues, and take action for a brighter, greener future.

Our workshops are dynamic, interactive, and tailored to empower KS5 learners with practical tools and employer-recognised credentials to stand out in the growing green economy. Whether it’s hands-on experiences at our Leaside classroom or industry-aligned certifications, we’re here to help students thrive in a world increasingly shaped by sustainability.

Further Education Classes

  • Green Careers Workshops

    Duration: typically 90 mins

    Provide your pupils with valuable insights into the realm of green jobs and careers, igniting their thoughts about a potential future in this sector.

    Course includes a team-work project activity to come up with action plan to solve an environmental problem, for example: pollution on the river Lea. Presentation of 5 different roles in the sector, introducing their role and why they chose it, and how they would have solved the problem. (Sustainability Consultant, Engineer, Ecologist, Eco-artist/activist, Local Authority Officer).  

    The workshop will also help students understand what green skills are and to put them to use in a practical real scenario, wearing the shoes of one of the green jobs that are presented. 

    The workshop can be combined with a water-based session on the river Lea, canoeing and litter-picking, to implement one of the solutions to the problem in real life. Check the details for a full day at Leaside.

  • Environmental Sustainability Skills Course

    Duration: 7hrs either in one day or in two half days. Dates to be confirmed for 2025.

    The IEMA Environmental Sustainability Skills Course is a one-day program at our Leaside classroom designed to inspire sustainability champions and delivered in collaboration with Watts Sustainability.

    Students will explore key topics: Climate action | Protecting biodiversity | Action on waste | Green organisations | Tools for sustainable change

    With a focus on preparing for the UK's evolving green economy, this course equips students with the knowledge and skills to lead sustainable change. Successful participants earn the IEMA Environmental Sustainability Skills certificate, a valuable credential recognised by employers.

    Who are IEMA?
    IEMA - Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment - is a professional membership body for individuals and organisations working towards sustainability and environmental management.
