Our Environmental Commitment
EcoACTIVE acknowledges the urgency of the environmental crisis and is committed to take action on it.
As a charity working with young people, educationalists and our diverse community, our environmental policy demonstrates our intent to help tackle it internally, by example and through our projects and education programmes.
We have aligned our mission, objectives and practices with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a global framework to address environmental and social challenges, and Science Based Targets result of the Paris Agreement. We strive to make a meaningful impact in particular in the following six dimensions.
Dimensions of Environmental Commitment
EDUCATION & WORK CULTURE
We embrace sustainable and equality practices in our work culture and promote it in the community throughout all our educational and conservation activities.
We are also a certified Living Wage employer.
TRAVEL
We travel by car only occasionally; all our staff cycle or use public transport and we own a cargo bike for our projects’ deliveries. Sustainable travel is included in our sustainability education topics.
WASTE & POLLUTION
We aim to become a zero-waste organisation, by reducing consumption, disposing of all waste streams appropriately, composting our organic waste and minimising use of resources. We use local suppliers where possible and we consider distances travelled when ordering supplies
WATER
We adopt a wise attitude to water consumption, minimising its use and harvesting rainwater on the premises where we are based. Being based by the river Lea, we teach about rivers’ health and pollution and regularly carry out cleaning actions.
NATURE & BIODIVERSITY
We contribute to the regeneration of habitats and conservation of ecosystems practically through our projects (i.e Hackney Buzzline ) and the environmental education and awareness that comes with them.
ENERGY
The facilities where we are based are retrofitted, insulated and all energy is renewable and produced on site with solar panels.
